Letter 27 February 12, 1872

“I made a bargain with Sam Hyle, if he would join church I would join the lodge”

I seat myself to let you know that I am not very well, I have got such a cold and have not felt very well for a week or so. I guess you will think that I was not going to write. I have not had much chance to write. We have been having a protracted meeting for two weeks, so I have not had much chance. There were 13 joined church. We have had sleighing here about three weeks but it is going away very fast. I joined the lodge last Saturday night. I made a bargain with Sam Hyle, if he would join church I would join the lodge and he joined church and so I had to join the lodge, I like it very well so far. Julia Cochran has got home, she can not hardly set up, she has got the consumption. Well I must bring my letter to a close for this time, good bye. Write soon and do not wait as long as I have. You must excuse me this time.

When are you coming up to see us
