Letter 4 December 27, 1862

“we sent the cavlery after them they took to there heals like al courds do”

Dear Mother I take the opertunity to let you now that we are well at present and hope that these few lines will find you all well we left new creek a bout two weaks a go and have ben marshen ever since when we left new creek we went to morfeald which was a bout 45 miles we got there at two a clock there was five companys tok possesion of the ceourt house the word come that there was thirty to go out of ech companey on a cont so we staurted next morning at thre a clock so we went to strausburg a bout 40 miels but the rebels had left we serched the towen and then left there we are now at Winchester we have ben heare about fore days the rebels atacted us a Chrismas so we thoght we wod a chrismas spre (?) but wen we sent the cavlery after them they took to there heals like al courdsdowe have not herd from the rest of the boys since we left and that has ben about a weak I dont no wheth we wil go back or they wil come heare well I must bring my letter a close you nede not right tel you here from me agane for I dont now where we wil goyet I have no chanc to right suner so nomore at present
