Letter 20 — June the 1, 1864
“Moses Zigler was kild ded he was on the curmus line he was shot thrue the hart”
Dear Mother It is with pllesher that I take my pen in hand to let you no that we are well at present and the boys ar all in good spirits and think the wor is a gone to be close this sumer we have had som very harg fighting to do but we have drove them every time tho we have lost very heavery I suppose we have lost 40 thousan kild wonded and missing but the rebels has lost more than we have but or Armey is stronger now then when we left Camp the rebel priseners says that generl Lee is kild and they say that they ar whipet well I think if they ar not whipet now they soon will be for we ar with in eight miles of Richman well there hase not bin eny wonded since the first days fight we have onely lost won kild and three wonded well I must close for this time I have not receved but won letter fr you since I left camp we can get letters ofner than we can send we have wroght every time we have a chance well as I did not get to send my letter of yesterday I will wriget a few lines well we had a very hard fight yester day even we charged the rebels lines and our Devishen took twelven hunderd prisners well I am very sorey to tell you that Moses Zigler was kild ded he was on the curmus (skirmish?) line he was shot thrue the hart he was taken back and bered I dod not see him after he was kild the rest ar all well well I mus close wright as son as you can no more at present and I will remane you un till death
