Letter 37 — Jan 19, 1873
“I did not spend the holy days very well, it was a dry time here.”
I seat myself to let you know that I received your letter. I had been looking and had begun to think you was sick. I am not very well now, have got such a cold, I have been most sick all week with it. Grandpa is sick, he was taken a Wednesday he has not been up since only a few times to eat I guess it is a cold that ails him, I went to the doctor for medicine today for him. Our protracted meeting commenced yesterday at Pleasant Hill. I have not been there yet, I cannot get off now while Grandpa is sick. They are having a great revival at Moorefield, there has been forty joined the church, the meeting commenced three weeks ago last Saturday. I did not spend the holy days very well, it was a dry time here. I have not been to see my cousin yet, would have but on the account of the horse disease, ours have not had it yet. Henry Maxwell told me that Uncle Alex's folks was down at Lagonda two weeks ago today. Mrs Sheeder died at Cals. Ellie is working at Sam Robinsons about a mile from us. Well I must bring my letter to a close for this time, so good bye, Write soon
