Letter 33 — July 7, 1872
“I have not got much but I do not expect to ask Nan for anything.”
I seat myself to let you know that I am well at present hoping when these few lines reach you that they may find you the same. It is about harvest time with us. We want to commence in the morning. We are done making hay. I was at Barnums Show a Monday, it was pretty good but not so good as recommended. Auntie Kimes sold her house and moved in a room with Baileys in Springfield.
If Nan knows so well when I am to be married I must go and find out about it, and I suppose if I was to get married tomorrow that Nan would hardly have to keep me. I have not got much but I do not expect to ask Nan for anything. So long as I am able to keep myself and I think if ever I get anything for what I have done here. God knows I have worked for it hard enough and my time will soon be up for this place. Sp good bye. Write soon
