Letter 26 — Strasburg V A Sep the 22nd, 1864

Dear Muther I take this opertunety to let you now that I am a live and well and hope this may find you enjoying the same blesing George rit to you a few days a go while we were laying near Berry Vill we have had a hard fight sence that we left Camp on the morning of the 19th and a bout 9 oclock we came on to the rebs we formd a line of batel and Charged them and had to fall back we had Six men wonded in Co I Fifty Six Cild and wonded 7 cild in the 110 regiment in the after noon the 8 Corps and the Cavelery got a round on the Rebs flank and then we payed them for what they dun to us in the fore noon we Chard on them and whiped them so bad that they broke and run every man for him self we sent them out ove Winchester faaster than ever they sent us out the rebs loss wase 8 thoosen Prisne rs and Cild and wonded besida a grate meney wonded they got a way with them ower loss in the hole armey is a bout 15 hunderd on the 20eth we folowed them to strasburge whare they ayre making a stand but I think the cavelery wil get in the rear I must stop for there is something to be done now if I get throoe safe I will rite some more bfore I send this September the 23 A nuther victrey ower divison Charged on the rebs and drew there atenochion and the 8 Corps went a round on the rebs flank and then they charged and got the rebs flank turnd and then the sixth Corps charged and we sent them a flying we run them til dark if we have had six howers more of daylight we wod have Capturd the hole armey we ayre 12 miles bloe Strasburg and think we wil folow them on I dont now how meney prisners we got yet but we done more than we di at Winchester well I must close fore the male is a going out in a few miet George is at Harpers fary taking Care of some horses he is well so no more this time rite soon
